Great sales during the holidays the prices are awesome!

Ordinarly I would give this store 4 stars because I'm not thrilled with the layout of the store... the floor plan is a bit crowded, but selection is decent. It's getting 5 stars because I personally know how hard it is to work retail. I don't work for this company, nor have I in the past: I'm not some moron hired by corporate to write this. Ive got better things to do on a holiday weekend, but couldn't help myself after reading some of the reviews. Granted the staff in any department store isn't perfect and occasionally make mistakes.. and no, they might not be smiling every second they are on the floor, but they work hard to keep the store organized and deal with customers (both pleasant and obnoxious) on every shift. For all you "well it's not rocket science" perfectionists who diss sales associates, why don't you put yourselves in their shoes for a day and see how hard it is to deal with face-to-face customer service, especially during large sales events? Customer service is not an easy job, and many of the associates are there to pay day-to-day bills and higher education costs to create a better life for their families. Here are a few tips when shopping to move things along: before you get on the checkout line, look the items over to make sure they all have price tags for scanning - if not, go get one that does - even if it's not the same size and color, it has a code that the cashier can use to scan it, and you don't have to return it to the rack. Also, while standing on line, take the clothes you plan to purchase off the hangers before you get to the counter (drape them over your arm or over the side of the cart). Check them for those hard plastic security tags and let the cashier know about them when you get to the counter. Lastly, if you have coupons, get them ready to hand the cashier, versus the rest of us waiting for you to dig through your wallet, purse, etc.

Horrible service... Hate to say it because I've been shopping here for years, and I want to like this store, but service is horrendous and takes forever, sometimes with a long wait resulting in me still having to leave empty handed. This store hugely lacks sufficient workers. I was hard pressed to find a single register that was open. I had to go all across the store just to pay for my shoes because the shoe dept register was closed...this, on a busy rainy Saturday holiday weekend during the busy back to school shopping period too!! Unacceptable. When I worked in retail--including work at this very store location yea ago!--that was definitely NOT the way to conduct business. They always had people openly communicate when they were leaving or going on break so coverage could be provided. The cashiers I finally found were ambivalent. When I later needed help locating an item that the website indicated was at that store location, no one was around to help. The cashiers didn't even bother to acknowledge us or tell us where the line started. I wouldn't have wanted to wait in a slow line if I had nothing yet to even purchase anyway. When I finally asked an employee about an item, she was clueless as anything, hesitated a long time just for her long thought out response to be "I don't know". Right. Great service, right. I ended up leaving without the item I was planning to purchase, not my choice to have it end that way. Another thing: the store was messy, cluttered, and furnishings (e.g., cushioned bench seats in the dressing rooms) were dirty, worn out, and a few had holes in the fabrics. With the short staffing, inadequate service, and messiness, it almost seems like JCPenney is trying to go out of business. It is no wonder they keep closing stores. No amount of price matching or shiny new appliance departments will help this failing chain when their stores look awful and have subpar, aloof service.

Nice survives friendly workers I love this store
